Tug boats in Porstmouth harbor.

PortCity

Portsmouth, NH was established in 1623 and it remains the only community on New Hampshire's seacoast to be designated a city. Portsmouth maintains its small town charm while fast becoming a major player in the world of International Trade. The former Pease Air Force Base is attracting many national and international businesses along with agencies of the US Government. In addition to the states business friendly climate, Portsmouth offers a deep-water port, rail, air, and access to I-95.

Portsmouth features the riverfront, streets of Georgian and Federal architecture, and an enduring history as a center of maritime commerce. As you walk around the historic district filled with cafes and restaurants(80+), bakeries and unique craft galleries and specialty shops you will see one to the three red tugboats, fishing boats, or ocean going vessels. On occasion you may spot a tall ship, nuclear submarine or one of the state-of-the-art tankers that share the river with pleasure craft. Portsmouth is a great place to spend the day on tour or simply relaxing at one of several outdoor cafes.

Enjoy the Strawberry Banke Museum and see the village as it was hundreds of years ago. Come to the Chowder Festival, Market Square Day, First Night, the Jazz Festival or Brewer's Festival. Book a play at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre or enjoy the musical (Portsmouth Music Hall) and theatrical activities at many independent theaters, or attend the ballet. If you start to feel land-locked you can take a cruse, go whale watching, charter a boat and go deep sea fishing, or hop an island ferry.

It is truly amazing that a city of less than 25,000 could offer so much. There are horse drawn carriages, restaurants featuring cuisine from around the world, the North Church steeple that overlooks downtown and so much more available. Portsmouth is a beautiful place to visit, but an even better place to call home. If you would like to know more about Portsmouth, please e-mail or call Susan Roe at RE/MAX® Coast to Coast.
